Software Freedom Day Bogotá 2009 – Start your engines

Well, Software Freedom Day 2009 is here. A new year for this great event arround the Open Source Software, Free Software, Open Culture and Freedom philosophy. This is my second year on organization team and this year everything shows that is going to be a really big day in Bogotá because we have a lot of activities and things to show, teach, learn and share

Los Libertadores Fundación Universitaria is going to be this year seat. He hope 2009 be a year with more people than 2008. We hope give a path to continue FLISoL and open the doors to Semana Linux Universidad Distrital and JSL.

On September 19th, starting at 8:30am until 4:00pm there going to be conferences, tutorials, expo and also some culture spectacle. More info available here

Campus Party Colombia 2009 Preparing everything

Second Colombian Campus Party is here. All starts on July 6th to July 12th. Thanks to our work we (Ruri and I) are going to present 2 tutorials.

On July 9th I going to share a tutorial called: “Mensajería Instantánea, más allá de los emoticones”

On July 11th Ruri is going to share a tutorial called: “Diseñando con Software Libre”

We have a lot of expectations and Ideas for this year, also, activities and time to share with some friends.

Of course, a lot of Open Source software to share

After FLISoL Bogotá 2009

FLISoL Bogota 2009 was pretty good. In fact we receive more people that the expected, also counting all problems with networking, comunications, repositories and other stuffs. Don’t forget the responsability of install on a machine that isn’t yours. It´s a big stress charge.

Here you can foud installation stats and global stats. All thins numbers make us happy and show us that the work was good and there was a great team on the lead of this festival.

Now we have several challenges: A new place for FLISoL 2010 because the library was good but not enought, few space and some rules that make us change the usual festival ways to do the things. Also count with people more preparated and with better skills. And finally better internet and energy.

Special thanks to Ruri for all her work: she design Bogotá Festival’s image and also another 11th cities posters and flyers. Also she participate with 3 tutorials about graphical desing with open source software and OpenOffice. Ohh, and help me with all refered to press and comunications

Released OpenApps 2.6 Cástor

Un año después llega una nueva versión del disco de aplicaciones libres OpenApps. En esta ocasión introduciendo 9 nuevas aplicaciones, además de contar con las últimas actualizaciones de las mejores aplicaciones de software libre para sistemas operativos Microsoft Windows.

Por supuesto incluyendo documentación en español, libros electrónicos y dos apartados dedicados al FLISoL y a la cultura libre.

OpenApps strike back

Ha been a long time since last OpenApps release and last ACLibre project news. Well Ruri and I decide to work again in OpenApps, thinking about new release. Last release was 2.5 (Hypnos and Thanatos) .

Thanks to FLISoL and revive ACLibre’s project we are going to workin 2.6 version. We don’t know how to call it (code name). All we know is that OpenApps2.6 is going to be better and the quality is going to increase.

Welcome to OSSIM

Some months ago a friend of mine told me about OSSIM ( Open Source Security Information Management). Today I have the oportunity to install it, because I’m working on a enterprise consultory process about IT. Off course I’m working with Ruri.

Right now I’m finishing the installation process and I feel anxious to try it. Actually OSSIM include some powerfull OpenSource Apps like Snort, Ntop, Nagios, and more. All these apps are very knowed along security and IT world.

Unfortunately there isn’t so much documentation os OSSIM in spanish, because of that I guess in one or two weeks I going to write something in spanish to talk about OSSIM, or maybe translate some cool manual.

Ohh, I almost forget. OSSIM can be used as a Debian distro (install), also with Debian and Fedora packages and finally using some virtualization software.
