List- o’s project born as a new implementation of the Tradauto project. A project developt by  Funredes (http://funredes.org). The main idea is offer a technological tool to translate text and messages to several languajes. All the messages are traveling across mailing lists.

List-o project is designed and developed by Colnodo  (http://colnodo.apc.org) to Funredes with the support of l’Institut de la Francophonie numérique, Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie.

Have been 3 months of hard work. A lot of interesting ideas and topics like internationalization and mail systems.

So, I invite you to know about  LIST-O. Any idea, suggestion or anything is welcome.

4am and I’m wake up. I not used to sleep with condittion air or cold air systems. So let’s talk about this trip and the things that i’ve done. So right know i’m in Barrancabermeja. Yesterday the temperature was on 32 ºC. Today seems is going to be hotest than today but when this happends I going to be in my beloved Bogota city.

I came to Barrancabermeja to give a talk about open soure software on the first Encuentro Regional de Territorios digitales del Magdalena Medio. So the talk takes 2 hours and was really amazing to talk to the people about this topic with more experience than other thing. At the end of the talk all the paople received a CD with OpenApps and gone with the idea to try Open Source software at house, school and work.

After the congress end time to tourism and see:

• Eat salpicón with ice cream
• See a perforation on a residential zone looking for oil.
• Magdalena’s river strenght moving faster to the sea.
• Kola Hipinto
• The hard smell of the oil at Ecopetrol refinery’s zone
• A really amazing heat
• Search for air condittioning places.

2010 was my second year as installation coordinator of FLISoL Bogota. Bogota city FLISoL is one of the biggest events in all latinamerica, with a lot of people, aa lot of activities and a lot of installations. This responsability was taken again on the final meeting of FLISoL 2009. Today I feel I do a great job and propose a procedure to this important area on FLISoL and other events.

I have some fails, one of them was the imposibility to setup Flisys, with the special changes made by Edmundo Cardona. I feel for fist time in a long time that Internet network works fine, at least on installation arena. I feel the networking desing and deployment was good. The treatment with people was good and there was a good communication between the installers and the pc owners.

There’s a lot of ideas, learning and experience not only for this kind of activities, I mean, a lot of things for the life, and proffesionally, things to be a good CIO. Today a lot of people realiced about how big is this kind of activities, how much time it involve, how much of you this need. So, this is my last year as installation area leader. I have to give the oportunity to new people to learn and improve what we’ve done.

My special thanks to Ruri Himura for his help on 2010 FLISoL. Kortux for his help on 2009 FLISoL. Diana Posada and my aunt Befana for support all my angers and crazy requeriments. Diego Guerrero for his experience and help on 2010 FLISoL. To the distro teams and of course, all the installers and people who allow us to instal open source software on they machines.

Por sexto año llega el Festival de Instalación de Software Libre a la ciudad de Bogotá. Un nuevo espacio da la oportunidad para albergar más y más personas que desean conocer acerca de las tecnologías libres, de la cultura libre, del conocimiento de tipo abierto.

Las instalaciones del Instituto De Recreación y el Deporte (IDRD), abrirá sus puertas el próximo 24 de Abril entre las 8am y 7pm para una nueva edición de la fiesta de tecnología más grande del mundo.

Conferencias, talleres, exposiciones, actividades para niños y adultos y por supuesto, una gran jornada de instalación de Software Libre (sistemas operativos, aplicaciones y más), darán cita a todo aquel que desee conocer un poco más de estas tecnologías cada vez más fuertes e importantes en la actualidad.

Trae tu máquina, trae tu familia, trae a tus amigos, este gran evento está abierto para todo público y ofrecerá diversión, aprendizaje y alegría a todos.

I suppost to be in San Andrés island and cover that trip with day 11 and 12, but nope. Today I’m in Bogotá because I have a very important activity: presentation to the juries of the grade work made with Ruri along a year. So, the last academic activity as pregrade on the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas was today .

The stall balance is good, we obtain 4.5 over 5, but I think this grade could be higger and also get the meritory about or thesis, bup, whatever, everything is done and history on UD finish.

Almost six or seven years studing hard, well, almost . When I started at 2003, I don’t think about  today, all the goals and  tknowledge, but it’s only the start.  I feel so thankful with open source philosophy, Linux, and of course,  all the support of Ruri.

All the things lived in  the University were pretty interesting, there were a lot of oportunities, some really good teachers, others not so good and some really bad teachers. Also greats friends like Laura, Dieguito, Robinson, Lina and more. Also my beloved woman, Ruri.

Well, the path continue with get some certifications and all the studies about CISSP. So, let’s go

Pasto, the sorprise city, well, people use to call like this. My destiny on day 10.

After a long long trip, well seems to me,  and take transport to the city, triping for almost 30Kms. I arrive to Pasto, in Nariño deparment at colombian south side. All day I was trying to see the Galera’s volcano but nope, a lot of clouds hide it, so, this photo explain well what I means

I take a long trip walking by the city, meeting the people and his funny way to talk, then walk again looking for a cheap transport to come back to the airport I’ve to take a taxi and pay a lot of money, because the airport is very very far from the city. At airport again, I do my job, then food and then wait for a small plane to travel to Cali, a connection to Bogotá. I suggest to eat on airport restaurant, a really good taste and excelent service.

Cali is a big city in the Valle del Cauca deparment. I have to wait a few minutes and then go to international gate and take a international flight (inside Colombia ) in a very small plane: The Airbus XD. So a excelent flight to Bogota with a wonderful sorprise:

Yeah, Airbus uses Linux in his entertainment terminals.

Well, no more trip this week. Next week  Barranquilla, Rionegro y Cali. The end of this tour is close.

Endian Firewall

Almost 2 years ago,  Juan Baptiste talk to me about an open source software called Endian Firewall. This software it’s a Linux distribution created for security and  networking management using it like an appliance.

I decide to use it on a “home server”, everything was perfect, but unfortunately I couldn’t  use all his available features.  I was using Endian 2.2rc1. Important, Endian it’s a Linux From The Scratch, this increase security because isn’t a fork or modified version of another Linux.

In my previous job I have two servers running Endian Firewall 2.2. Throught them I managed firewall, port forwarding, proxy, content filtering, NTP server, Snort, Ntop and OpenVPN, my favorite one . But, some day  Ruri told me about Dansguardian and it’s group management, so we check and Endian support it but any change made on command line get lost because the web interface isn`t support them.

Today, in my new job and related with other stuff I’m learning, one question appear in my head: What about autentication using LDAP instead IP address on my proxy?, Well Endian, until 2.2 don’t have this option, but, today yes

Endian Firewall development team have release a new shiny version which includes:

-Automatic backups

- Alert and Warnings mail to your sysadmin

- Autentication throught  LDAP (AD, OpenLDAP, etc) for the proxy Sweet

- QoS Module (Quality of Service, priority and all that useful stuffs)

- Groups on Dansguardian management

-  HotSpots module

Well, Software Freedom Day 2009 is here. A new year for this great event arround the Open Source Software, Free Software, Open Culture and Freedom philosophy. This is my second year on organization team and this year everything shows that is going to be a really big day in Bogotá because we have a lot of activities and things to show, teach, learn and share

Los Libertadores Fundación Universitaria is going to be this year seat. He hope 2009 be a year with more people than 2008. We hope give a path to continue FLISoL and open the doors to Semana Linux Universidad Distrital and JSL.

On September 19th, starting at 8:30am until 4:00pm there going to be conferences, tutorials, expo and also some culture spectacle. More info available here
